Frank (Tres) Louis Mitchell, III, MD, MHA is a general surgeon with expertise in trauma, emergency general surgery, and surgical critical care. Dr. Mitchell is board certified in general surgery with added qualifications in surgical critical care. He is highly experienced and adept in the care of trauma and surgical patients, while providing compassionate care for patients and their families.

Dr. Mitchell earned his medical degree from Tulane University, was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society during his 3rd year, and then completed his general surgery residency at the University of Texas Southwestern - Parkland Memorial Hospital. He also obtained a Master's in Health Administration at the University of Missouri - Columbia.

Dr. Mitchell has been a member of the Committee on Trauma (COT) of the American College of Surgeons (ACS), at both the State and National level. While on the COT, he was a member of the Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS) National Committee, and a member of the Verification Review Committee, along with functioning as a site reviewer for trauma centers for over 20 years. Dr. Mitchell was also the 4th Chair of the Verification Review Committee - overseeing the trauma center site visit program for four years.

Dr. Mitchell has been the Trauma Medical Director of several trauma centers over the past twenty-five years, most recently in Arizona, prior to joining the South Austin Medical Center trauma program.

Dr. Mitchell has been a speaker at medical conferences across the country, and has been published in medical journals and texts. He has also been active in several professional organizations, including the American Association for the Surgery of Trauma (AAST), Western Trauma Association (WTA), Society of Critical Care Medicine (SCCM), and the American Association for Physician Leadership (AAPL).
