About Drue Ware

Drue “Neel” Ware, MD, specializes in trauma and surgical critical care and previously served as the trauma medical director at Seton Medical Center Williamson. Prior to that role, he was an assistant professor of surgery at The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston (UTHSC Houston) for five years and an associate professor of surgery for seven years. While there, he received the Dean’s Teaching Excellence Award 14 times and actively served in numerous leadership roles, including director of education, prevention and outreach for Memorial Hermann Hospital’s Level I trauma center.

Dr. Ware earned a Bachelor of Science from Texas A&M University and his medical degree from UTHSC Houston. He completed an internship in general surgery at Charity Hospital in New Orleans and served as chief surgical resident with Tulane School of Medicine. He furthered his medical training at UTHSC Houston where he completed trauma and critical care fellowships.

Dr. Ware is an instructor in advanced trauma life support (ATLS) and previously served as ATLS course director. He is board certified in general surgery and surgical critical care. Active in medical research, Dr. Ware has been published frequently in medical journals and texts on topics such as trauma and the elderly, carotid trauma, cervical spine injury, blunt splenic injury and trauma resuscitation. He has a passion for teaching others and has been a featured speaker at numerous grand rounds and medical symposia in the United States, Canada and Mexico. Dr. Ware is a member of the American College of Surgeons, American Association for the Surgery of Trauma, Society for Critical Care Medicine and Southwestern Surgical Congress.
