Michelle L. Strong, MD, Ph.D. serves as the Shock Trauma Intensive Care Unit medical director at St. David’s South Austin Medical Center. She is board certified in surgical critical care and general surgery. Dr. Strong received her Bachelor of Science in pharmacy from Albany College of Pharmacy in Albany, New York and her Ph.D. in pharmacokinetics from the University of Nebraska, Omaha, Nebraska. She then completed a 2 year NIH fellowship in pharmacological research, prior to obtaining her medical degree at Indiana University in Indianapolis, Indiana.

Dr. Strong furthered her medical education by completing her internship and residency in General Surgery at the University of Utah, Salt Lake City, Utah and she then moved to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to complete her Trauma Surgery and Surgical Critical Care Fellowship at the University of Pennsylvania. After completing her education, Dr. Strong moved to Tacoma, Washington to practice Trauma Surgery, Surgical Critical Care and General Surgery at the Tacoma Trauma Center as part of the Trauma Trust team for greater than 6 years. She has also worked as locum tenens in Trauma Surgery, Surgical Critical Care and General Surgery at St. Alphonsus Regional Medical Center in Boise, Idaho.

In 2015, Dr. Strong moved to Austin and joined the South Austin Trauma Surgeons. Dr. Strong has been published in numerous medical journals and textbooks on pharmacology, trauma and surgical critical care concepts. She is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, a member of the Society of Critical Care Medicine, the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society and the Travis County Medical Society. She frequently participates in the Eastern Association for the Surgery of Trauma annual meeting. Dr. Strong enjoys teaching medical students, nurses and advanced practice providers.
